When I was a little kid in south africa in the sixties, we expanded the DKW abbreviation to "Deutse Kaffir Wa" in Afrikaans, which means "German {perogative racist term} Wagon".

Search Youtube for some lovely clips featuring the unique sound of the three cylinder 2-stroke engine.

When I was 11, 1961, we had a yellow DKW...It must have been the very basic model...no radio, no carpet...no lighter. Often, we had to jump it by rolling it down the hill and popping the clutch..
I believe we bought this car from a local dealer in New London, CT.
