Valiant debuted at the 44th British International Motor Show in London on October 26, 1959 as a 1960 model and was officially considered a distinct brand, but for the 1961 model year, the Valiant became a Plymouth model. In 1962, the Valiant returned without Plymouth branding and starting in 1964 and onwards, the car was sold in the United States only as a Plymouth Valiant.
The Valiant car was marketed as a stand alone brand and as a Plymouth from 1960 through 1976 as well as a Chrysler in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa from 1962 to 1981.
