Vauxhall was founded by Alexander Wilson in the Vauxhall district of London in 1857.
That same year, he designed the logo using the griffin, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head/wings of an eagle, which reflects the coat of arms of Sir Falkes de Breauté, a mercenary soldier who was given the Manor of Luton by King John in the thirteenth century. His mansion, Fulk’s Hall, went on to be known as Vauxhall.
