The name of this soon-to-be crossover is Sfero. The 2007 model should fit between VW's Passat and upmarket Phaeton. The Sfero shares a rear-mounted transaxle with the Maserati Quattroporte sedan.
The transaxle design makes room for Audi's V8 engine family, which is too long for the Sfero's engine bay when coupled to a more conventional transmission. This means the Sfero potentially could be fitted out with the 450-plus horsepower of the turbo Audi V8.
Varying reports from our insiders at Volkswagen tell us that passenger accommodations will be for either five or seven people.
It's pretty Obvious what the Volkwagen logo is (a V over a W in a blue background, sorounded by a circle). It's origin is rather mundane though. The logo was the result of an office competition to see come up with a logo. The winner of the competition (who won 50 Marks for his troubles) was an engineer named Franz Reimspiess (the same man who perfected the engine for the Beetle in the 1930's).
