Lightning Hybrids is an automotive research and manufacturing company that has designed two 100 MPG hydraulic-biodiesel hybrid cars with sports sedan performance (0-60 in 5.9 seconds) and visual appeal.

The cars are slated to be available in 2010 and will sell for $39,000-$59,000.

Prototype manufacturing began in January 2009 with early models planned for completion for the Denver Auto Show in early April 2009 and manufacturing expected to begin in Loveland, Colorado in 2010.

Lightning Hybrids participated in the international Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE competition with their revolutionary automotive technologies.

They have an aggressive plan to win the $10 million prize with their unique patent-pending biodiesel-hydraulic hybrid vehicle emphasizes thermodynamic and hydraulic system efficiencies, lightweight mechanical and composite structures, and sports car appeal.
