Revolutionary yet simple, Local Motors creates a direct connection with customers who guide design development based on personal desires. The outcome of this open, collaborative process is meaningful, exciting cars designed specifically for car enthusiasts in local areas.

Local Motors will build micro-factories in regions where demand is highest and cars are built and sold from the micro-factories on a just-in-time basis. Both the products and process are sustainable. Local Motors vehicles feature best in class fuel efficiency while the development and manufacturing process dramatically reduces waste while maintaining the flexibility to incorporate new efficient technology as it emerges.

The design, manufacturing, and sales processes are sustainable and agile while creating a direct physical connection with more fully satisfied customers in each region.

The first Local Motors design concept to be designed by a community of enthusiasts and talented designers world-wide, is the Rally Fighter by Sangho Kim.

Micro-Factory Retailing.
Local Motors proposes to do these things by challenging the paradigm of highly centralized manufacturing, embattled dealerships, and dispersed service locations. Instead, they propose to introduce their new cars by building a national network of local units each capable of manufacturing, sales, and service. The individual units will be supplied by a global "value network" of integrated suppliers of parts and sub-assemblies. Collectively, the units will be linked to a small headquarters providing support for process migration, design commonality and purchasing functions.

Collaborative, "Web 2.0" Community.
Design style, customer research, career opportunities and demand are driven by a revolutionary virtual community, which enables styling and features to match unmet customer requirements while retaining full licensing rights. You can help design the cars you want, or simply vote and choose which car you want in your hometown from among the thousands of cars on Local Motors.

Environmental Efficiency.
Local Motors' lightweight vehicles will reduce carbon and particulate emissions while achieving best-in-class fuel efficiency, initially using conventional internal combustion engine technology; Their first vehicle, the Rally Fighter, is powered by clean diesel. Because they are decentralized, they are able to utilize the best fit and most efficient powertrain and alternative fuel method per region. This means clean diesel for the wide open Southwest, electric in Boston and San Francisco, and CNG in Houston. Using proven technologies, Local Motors will immediately address concerns over climate change, fuel costs, and dependence on foreign oil.

If the mass production and marketing methods of Ford and GM ushered in the first generation of automaking, and the lean Toyota Production System ushered in the second, Local Motors represents the first fully functioning "Automotive 3.0" company.
