Porsche will continue its successful cooperation with its Finnish production partner Valmet Automotive for the Boxster and Cayman mid-engine models through 2012.
Over the past eleven years, more than 200,000 Porsche sports cars have been built in Finland. Now, on the basis of a tender, Porsche has selected Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik AG of Graz, Austria, as its future subcontractor.
Magna will permit Porsche to continue the “breathing factory” concept during the next decade. As of 2012, the Graz plant will take over production for the Boxster, which cannot be handled in Zuffenhausen for reasons of capacity. The extensive supply relationships between Porsche and the Magna Group will also provide synergies. Even today, the company manufactures many important components for Porsche.
